Hi folks.

I have a Spidem Trevi (same as a Saeco Vienna Plus) with the m5svv1-1 board.

I'm certain my board has died - when I turn the unit on, the power LED lights up, but nothing happens. It will not go into test mode, and removing the dump drawer, drip tray, or opening the door does not make the red led illuminate.

I've visually inspected the board and the only part did I could find that looked suspect was a trace that had a tiny black mark on it. I inspected it with a manifying glass after cleaning it, and there's a copper pit on the small trace, indicating arcing / tracking at this point.

Would anyone be able to give me some pointers on how to find fault the board?

Thank you in advance.

Tony.

Hi,

In the forum exists a schematic of your board, created by WolleP using reverse engineering ........ http://www.saeco-support-forum.de/attachment.php?attachmentid=9155 .....
Is there a small hint, the microprocessor has booted ? The power light does not confirm a stable 5 VDC, which is required by the microprocessor. Start your trouble shooting with the 5 VDC power supply.

regards
Harry

Hi Harry. Thanks for your advice. Unfortunately I am not skilled at testing electronics. Could you tell me where on the board to test for 5 VDC?

Thank you,
Tony.

Meassure the following voltages ......
1. acrosse the elctrolytic capacitor 470 µF / 35 V
2. at the 7805 voltage regulator between pin 2 (middle pin) and pin 3 (right pin)
The schematic shows the 5 VDC power supply used by Saeco ...... X_9422.Vienna5VDC-Netzteil-Markup.jpg ..... the schematic is based on the Vienna M5AV1-8 board. The abbrevations of the electronic parts may be different for the M5SVV1-1 PCB.

Unfortunately I am not skilled at testing electronics
Be careful - there is a high electric shock hazard. The board does not divide low (5 VDC) und high (230 VAC) voltage areas.

I'm getting 8.3V at the cap, and 5.02 at the voltage regulator. Would you be able to offer any advice on how to proceed? Thank you for helping me with this problem.

Yes, I am very careful. The board has laquer on it which helps with waterproofing + electrocution, but makes testing hard.

are you sure the microprocessor boots ?
You mentioned a strange looking trace an the PCB. Can you connect this area with a circuit using WolleP's excellent schematic ?

In my first post I attached an image of the board, and circled the suspect area. The point of damage is tiny, but bare copper can be seen under a magnifying glass. The circuit is still complete, but it appears has shorted in this area.

Actually, I had circled the wrong area. Here is the correct image. It goes to the microprocessor :(

According to your second foto and your description I think an arcing process has started, that could have killed the microprocessor.
So first of all. Does the microprocessor boot ?
The 8,3 V at the capacitor shows an unusual high current consumption.

No, no signs of life apart from the power LED and the relay clicks. No test mode, no red light when microswitches open.

The Vienna M5AV1-8 is equipped with the same Toshiba microprocessor TMP 47P443 VN.
I measured between the power pins (pin 28 Vcc and pin 14 GND) a resistance of 2,4 kOhm. If this value is considerable lower on your board , it would confirm that your microprocessor is dead and explain the high power consumption.

The picture of your link looks almost identical to this foto ...... Ersatz_CPU.jpg .......
The following PDF-file descibes the replacement procedure and usage of the coffee machine after the replacement ....... Einbauanleitung Vers. 3.10 -- Vienna-Ersatzprozessor -- Platinen M5AV1-8,M5SVV1-1 und Krups K5AV1-2 ---- Autor: infinityii_de.
Sorry, there is no English translation. infinityii_de is a member of the forum. Several members used this replacement and gave favorable reports in the forum. The latest software version tested was 3.11, which was rated superior to the Saeco version.
Try to contact infinityii_de via PN or email, if you want to buy the replacement.
Maybe the board in your link is based on infinityii_de's development with an updated PCB design.

Do you think it would be likely that other parts of the board would be damaged?
Arcing usually takes place between an actuator circuit (230 VAC) and a 5 VDC sensor circuit or the gate line of a triac. Therefore the involved sensor or the involved actuator circuits must be isolated and tested. Microprocessors, sensors and triac gates do not tolerate 230VAC.

Do you have infinityii_de email address? He hasn't been active on the forums since 2011, and I cannot locate his email address anywhere.

Thank you,

Tony

The email address is no longer valid. I will purchase a replacement board from the Ukraine seller and see if I can get the board to return to service. Thank you.

Hi Guys, I've found this forum with a lot of interesting posts!

I have an issue with my Vienna Digital. It's the Canadian version but it should work the same way as in Europe. When I turn it on the display shows nothing, only the upper line dots are illuminated and I hear the relay clicking once. It takes a lot of time, like 10 minutes, before to hear another click of the relay and the display shows normal words again, the machine starts to heat up and all is normal. When the machine is hot and I turn it off and on again, everything starts immediately. If I leave the machine to cool down it repeat the long delay start. Do any one has an idea what could be the problem?

Your 5 VDC power supply is not operating properly when the machine is switched on in a cold environment. The time to produce stabilized 5 VDC is too long.
Replace the electrolytic capacitors in the power supply. They probally have lost some capacitance ....... Choose Capacitors with the same capacitance, but with a higher temperature limit ---- 105° C instead of 85 °C ........ X_9422.Vienna5VDC-Netzteil-Markup.jpg
